E.J. James III has committed to Northeastern State, he announced Friday.

James spent the 2025 season with Central Oklahoma, but did not play. The freshman from Muskogee will have four years of eligibility remaining.

At Muskogee, James had 18 catches for 448 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior and also had 51 tackles and three interceptions on defense in helping the Roughers reach the Class 6A-II title game for a second straight season.

He and the Roughers won the 2023 Class 6A-II state championship game.

James joins a Northeastern State team that went 9-3 and won the First Americans Bowl. The RiverHawks also defeated Central Oklahoma for the first time since 2013.
